Brake Kill Switch - How to??

Anyone got a lead on how to install a brake light kill switch? U know, a bypass switch that causes the brake lights to not come on when you brake.

Don't know the legality of it, but how can it be done? I've seen someone do it somewhere. Which wire do i screw with, and where is it located?

If someone emails him and gets the brake light schematics, please share it

fundamentally, you want splice a normally-closed switch into the circuit for the brake light switch, very close to the switch itself. If you put it downstream (ie the lines going to the taillights) you'll get an annoying "brake light circuit" fault on the OBC every time you use it

Another thing I though of trying is splicing a shunt from the brake switch ground to the door-lock switched ground. Theoretically, when you hold down the door lock button, it would provide a lower-impedance path to ground than the brake circuit. Haven't tried it though.
hey lazybones: whatever you're asking, the answer is already in the archives.

I got a response from Ron Stygar. The schematic is at:

I found some pretty stock looking switches for the knockout panels ahead of the shifter. I'm currently using a black one for my radar detector. They also come in lighted blue or red. I'm probably going to wire a lighted red toggle switch through a relay so that the switch lights up when my brake kill is ON just as a warning and reminder to me.

I also plan to place the relay close to the brake circuit switch and wire with 14ga wires to minimize resistance (hopefully no OBC error). Hope it works.

What is the puropose of this? is it a "running from the cops" thing? Personally, I've always wanted to have my left taillight stay on when I'm parked on the street, to keep people from hitting me.

Running from the cops? Umm ... no, we wouldn't do that. It could be used for that though, and also if you're the lone car on the road at night and your radar goes off, you don't light up the scenery behind your car when you jam on the brakes. There's also a ton of uses when you don't want to be followed at night ... you can dissapear into the night ... heh heh.
