    painted the bumpers/trim/skirts this morning!!

I bought some Sherwin Williams Automotive base coat/ Clear coat yesterday. So this morning the process started. I started by sanding everything down and cleaning it with degreaser and window cleaner. Then masked everything off. Wetted the floors. Used air gun to blow off parts to be painted again. here are the pics. I just finished so the trim and mirrors arent on the car yet, but you get the picture. I started this morning at 7 am and finshed at 9:30 am CST.

Damn, another DIY guy. That came out nice man! Although I'm curious why you didn't remove your bumper moldings and paint those seperately...

Nonetheless. That looks like some excellent work my friend! Nice job!

Good job but like Preppy said, I would have taken off the front plate holder, other bumper trim pieces, etc. and shot those seperately. How were you able to get behind those pieces to spray the bumper? It would be like painting a room but leaving the pictures still hanging on the wall.....

Looking good! You should have painted the bumper moldings seperately because now there's paint stuck inbetween the bumper and the molding.

I sure hope you're gonna get an exhaust tip or something. That red tip looks kind of funny

Oh and are you going to get the rest of that adhesive off from behind your badge?

The painted bumpers make a whole world of a difference man!

When I had all my stuff done a few months back, I left all the mouldings and such black. I even wanted them to leave the center black part of the rear bumper too. When the later E36's came with painted valences' the center part was black. But I had the lip on the m3 front painted to match. Maked the car look a bit lower. Personally I would only paint the mouldings on a white, black or silver car. But yours looks good. I'm surprised to see how nice it looks in the pics. But not to damage any of your skills but, almost any car can look good in a pic. I'd love to see it in person. Nice job.

i hear ya, i am very happy with it. i took my time and planned it out way ahead. the spray gun and enough air makes the biggest difference.

I think to make this paint last a little longer you may want to add another clear coat, heatlamp it, buff it our real well and put some finishing polish on it. this is recommended to keep the paint from fading over time

Oh, you may also want to consider re-painting the kidney grille surround. I think Chris said it best, "paint makes the world of difference" (do you even recognize your car anymore?)

Go buy yourself a can of automotive tar/adhesive/gunk remover. I think 3M makes it. It works and doesn't mess up your paint.

Did you use any primer? Or did you just do a single base coat, then sanded it and sprayed on a new coat?

What grit sand paper did you use, 1000, 2000?

i have the craftsman 6.5 HP compressor. U will need at least 8 scfm at 40 psi to run the gun good. as far as the gun, I have a cheapo wally world campbell hausfield ( lot of pros use it ). i have a lot of air tools too. They are great!!
