Got the lap top in the front seat!
The CDV is that thing on the drivers side of the transmission, with thick bendable hose, then metal hose on the other side? So just yank it out, and attach the rubber hose to the hanger where the meteal one goes?
The e46 DIY lookes a bit different...
for the e36 i use a 11mm, 15mm, and 17mm wrench rather then a 11mm and two 17mm?
i cant remember the exact wrench sizes required, any metric set should get the job done.
you are in the right place though, GL!!
Got it! Those bolts were on there good, had some difficulty getting them off. Took the car for a "spirited" run. Feel like I have a new clutch. Much easier to chirp the gears, and peel out...
No fluid came out when I did it,and it doesn't feel like it needs to be bleed. So no bleeding I guess?
did you clamp the line off before removing the valve? if it feels good as is, i would just leave it alone.
congrats on teh new mod
I used vice grips, and some foam around them...Originally Posted by uuc328
Congrats!!! Now al you have left is the bleeding
I'd go ahead and bleed the clutch just as an extra percaution. Anytime you seperate a fluid line of any sort and reatach it, you run the chance of having an air bubble in the line.
Meh... It was a total PITA due to the fact that my car is so low and the ramps were low. Half the time I coulnt even see what I was doing, if I was fat I wouldn't have ever got under there...Originally Posted by DirtOval
bleed the mofo along with the brakes, you got nothing to lose
This is how I did it: ( a bit different from the e46)
1. Drove car on ramps
2. Jacked up the drivers side of the car by the rear wheel for some extra clearence
3. Sqeezed under the car and sprayed the whole CDV assembly with WD-40
4. Clamped off the rubber hose with vice grips and some foam
5. Took the 15mm and 17mm wrench and turned the 17mm (hose side) a half turn, being carefull not to twist the hose too much.
6. Take the 15mm wrench and hold it stready, while you losen the 11mm bolt. That thing was on there good, and I thought I broke it when I first loosened it.
7. Keep turning the 11mm nut untill the CDV drops down.
8. Loosen the CDV from the hose, mine was still on there pretty good, so I used the wrenches making sure to twist the 15mm side.
9. This next part is tricky; put the hose into the bracket, make sure that metal flange thing is lined up, and hold the hole assemble toghether with your left hand. Then twist the 11mm bolt untill it catches. I spent a good 5 min, trying to get that bitch to thread. This might be easier if you can see the 11mm bolt.
10. Once its on there tighten using the 15mm to hold it and the 11mm to screw it.
11. Take off vice grips.
12. Wipe off the whole thing, and press the cluth a few times. Make sure no fluid is comming out (no drips on the floor or connector).
13. Take the car for a test run (do some burn outs, chirp through the gears), and then curse at the vile and evil little CDV device that now sits on your garage floor.
What a difference! Everyone needs to remove theirs!
mine has been off for awhile and i like it gone
GC-AA-Cosmos-Kosei-ZKW-99 M3 totaled

Yeah, and I have a 97 and took mine out.
if u guys were wondering what it does, really its simple. its desigened to let the clutch slip a bit so under hard shifting and driving the car wont jerk sideways (which we all like) chirp gears and such basically it was there for a smoother ride
but you could look at it as a safty device for female drivers who pop the clutch a lil too fast
It saved me from blowing my engine when I missed a shift. I saw the tach go to 7k. and that spit second the CDV was letting the clutch slip allowed me to push the clutch back in... So its not all bad...Originally Posted by Deadboltz
Why didnt you bounce off the limiter? Or do you not have one?
If you money shift, the rev limiter is useless...Originally Posted by bimmerboy328i
Do the early 96 328's have it? Mine's an 11/95 production.
I think early 96 does have it. I dont think 95's have it all, but you can always take a look.Originally Posted by midtown328i
