I had my transmission at operating temperature since I was about to do a fluid flush. I was taking the drain plug off REALLY slow..turn my turn action, because I was afraid the oil would burn me. Well at the very end I went really fast, dropped the plug and I got some transmission fluid inside my mouth. I didn't know what do do so I ran home and washed my mouth out with dish detergent. Can this stuff kill me?

ROLF! You're going to be sick!! Depends on what detergent you used. Nah, just kidding man that happened to me yesterday too when i was changing my tranny fluid. Tastes bad doesnt it? Doesnt smell to great either, especially the new fluid. You'll be fine. I had more than a few drops it me in the face, mouth, nose and some actually rolled under my safety glasses when i took the front sump off. I'd just drink a pepsi and be done with it.

Well, it depends on if you spit or swallow..... I assume you were smart enought o spit it out. So you took in just a minimal amount. I wouldn't sweat it. I once did a tranny rebuild and was pretty much soaked in that stuff from head to toe and I am sure I injested some too.

The most toxic and dangerous fluid in the car is the coolant. Many years ago, like about twenty, I got a face full of coolant. It got in my eyes, in my mouth, etc. I spit it out, but it was quite a bit. Plus with it in my eyes, it would be absorbed into the blood stream. I decided to go to the ER.

They call the poison control folks for guidance, and what they are told to do is check blood oxygen at the jugular. Yes, the big artery in your neck that supplies blood to the brain.....

So, I am lying there, and they put one of those IV catheter (sp?) things in my jugular, and each time my heart beats it squirts blood about 2 feet in the air.... and they connect one of those sample jars to it to take a samle, then they change to a new jar to take a second, and as they do again, each time my herat pumped it ws like old faithful.

Turns out I was fine. But damn, that was freaky.

Yikes. Definitely better safe than sorry though. Animals die from drinking that stuff all the time.

If you ever get shit in your mouth and you're not sure about it, it doesn't hurt to call Poison Control, it's what they're there for. They'll probably tell you you're fine, and then you'll have peace of mind.

you know, when you even touch any of these fluids they absorb through the skin into the bloodstream; in minute amounts true but still... so it's just an "occupational hazard" thing. We probably get more damage from the fumes released when we fill'er up at the local pump.

Take it from someone who had his mouth washed out with soap on a few ocassions. If you swallowed any of the soap you in for a case of the trots.
Unless you swallowed a bunch of the ATF I wouldn't worry. Eaten plenty of luches with pretty oily hands with no ill effe.......

Drink two quarts and call me in the mourning. Kidding, kidding, no but seriously solvent tank cleaning fluid is the worst (working on the pump when it blew-up) that's how. Never drink any fluids from your car, always call your doctor if you don't feel right.

My dad can tell what the car is leaking by tasting it. It's actually pretty easy to do. Coolant is very distinctive, a bitter sweet taste, oil is earthy, water is...well..water, battery acid is sour, transmission fluid is just plain nasty, although I do think that is smells like grapefruit. :dunno

I wouldn't suggest injesting any of that though...tasting isn't a big deal.

I hope so........jk a month ago I finally got my Ti moving and I was gonna start it up but I didnt think anything was in the oil pan so as I undid the plug water poured into my mouth because it had sat outside in the lot. Luckily it was only water though but it was foul tasting and the thought of it made me gag for a few minutes after. My boys thought it was highly amusing

That's pretty disgusting. I'd hate to think what the crankcase looked like after having water in it for a long time...:(
