:shifty Of your A/C Lines? :shifty
Mine were rubbing so bad it wore a hole in the high side line (I think it's the high, it's the one you DON'T put the R134 into) down where it and the low side run on the frame rail next to the engine.

They are just held onto the fittings with stupid Quick Disconnects, right? Or is there something more complicated? I'm going to the junkyard tomorrow to get a line, I need A/C!

Car AC is for womens.

This happened on my home AC....just had it soldered/welded...but if junkyard lines are cheap do it.

What a strange issue, I'm going to check mine for signs of rubbing... On the pump the lines are held by allen head bolts and flanges, and I believe they have flared ends with nuts to connect elsewhere.

What were they rubbing against? And what kind of movement are you getting in your engine compartment that causes the lines to move that much?

They were rubbing each other.

It doesn't take much..if the insulation, or plastic covers are gone - the tubes 'vibrating'(it doesn't take much movement) against each other, or something else, can wear through over time.

You can refill some A/C systems through the high side, but usually that is after an overhaul.

I think I have the same problems. Pics of where yours is leaking.

Make sure the AC system on the parts car is empty. I found out the hard way that a system wasn't empty when I tried cutting through a hose to remove something else.

But no, I've never had that issue. Is your engine moving enough to allow them to chafe, or are you missing a clamp somewhere? Check realoem.com, but I'm pretty sure it's just the quick connects holding them on.

Guys I would advise you go and check yours. I went to the junkyard today. A gorgeous 93 green 740il was there so I pulled it off. The insulation was worn away but the metal part was OK. I checked a 94 740i and a 94 530i. All the same, worn insulation and the metal was just starting to show wear marks from the other line.

I'll get some pics up in a bit when I replace mine.

Garrett: Thanks for the heads-up; I'll go check mine.

Is there a particular problem area?

Yup. Give me a little bit and I'll throw some pics up. This may only be a problem on the V8 cars, I don't know if the I6 cars run the lines in the same spot.

There spaced apart on the i6 version running along the passenger side wheel well into the firewall.

It doesn't take much vibration to wear a line. I actually had a brake line (from the master cylinder to the front brakes) snap once on an old Ford pickup while driving down a wash-boarded out dirt road. I found out real fast why it's called an 'E-brake'.

Junkyard car had so much UV dye!

New line. Notice the foam worn away, I wrapped it in a rubber hose.

This is where the chafing and rubbing actually happens, notice the metal heat wrapped line above the foam padded line, it's all it took.

Old line:

There was a slight pin hole in it. Notice how shiny it is compared to the replacement line. It took a half hour to replace it and it cost me 10 bucks and it doesn't leak. I'm done for now.

Do you know that kid who hit the State Cop drunk driving from B'water State?

No, TBH I don't really talk to anyone. I'm not a drunk or a pot head so I don't really have much in common with most of the other students.
