View Full Version : New alloys but what tyres?

I'm probably going to treat myself to some new 18" alloys and tyres (decided not to go for 19" alloys as I'd like to keep the comfort factor (but in saying that I've not definitely ruled 19" alloys out)!

Anyways...

For 18" alloys tyres up front will be 235/50/18's but for the rears; if the alloys are 9-9.5" wide; what size tyres should I be looking at (currently I'm running 255/45/18's on Style 32 9" wide rear alloys)

And for 19" alloys; what size tyres should I be looking at both front an rear (fronts 8-9" wide and rear's 9-10" wide)

Thanks :D

19" should be 255/40/19 in front and 275/35/19 rear for those sizes. Your tires on the style 32's are correct for 9.5" rears as they are the standard size for M-Pars.

I got rubbing with my 255/40/19s on the rear of the front passenger-side wheel well. Only when turning right. Very annoying!

Somehow, my 235/50/18's have just started rubbing as well, didn't rub all winter. :(

Brilliant thanks re 19" alloys :)

With regards to my current Style 32's; could I reuse those tyres for new alloys up to 9.5" wide or would I be better buying say 275/45/18's etc...?

The alloy websites here in the UK suggest those sizes...

The tires you have on the style 32's are the OE fitment for the M-pars which are 9.5" wide in the rear, so yes.

What wheels do you have with those 255/40/19's? What offset are they? They shouldn't be rubbing, but he could always go with a 245/40/19 if that would be a problem. Tire rack lists the 255's as the correct tire for the e38 with 19" wheels.

Brill; thanks :)

Ive decided to change alloys as even though I had my Style 32's fully shot blasted and re sprayed 12months ago; I think that the corrosion was that bad beforehand that they weren't able to get the ingrained corrosion out so the new paint/lacquer is now reacting :(

Miffed really as I think they're the best OEM alloy for the E38's.. :(

I can get anew set of alloys for £550 UK sterling, 18 x 8.5 upfront and 18 x 9.5" on the rears :)

Cool. What 19's were you considering?

Keep in mind that all of the ones you posted are e39 fitment and will require hub rings. The correct center bore size for e38 is 72.56mm and those are all 74.1mm. They are also ET20 offset and will work, but typical offset for e38 is ET24.

You can get wheels that will fit e60 or e65 etc., but e39 fitment is different from nearly everything else BMW made.

Yeah; know what sizes I'll need and all those sellers provide the necessary hub spigot rings etc... :)

BM Motorsports are very good at what they do so will only sell alloys they will work right with as little altering as necessary

I've looked at E65 rims but they're either being sold for far too much money or their condition is poor and after a full refurb they'd end up costing me hell of a lot more than a new set of alloys!

Are you lowered? I'm asking because I'm getting some style 95's for my e38 this weekend and it'd be nice to know if I should stick with the 245's instead. The wheels are coming with 245/45/19's on them since they are take-offs from an e65, but apparently, that's what Edwin is running on his. When I need new tires though, I was probably going to go with 255/40/19, but if you say they rub, I'll reconsider.
