Hey bimmerforums, I recently went to get my emissions test done to renew my tabs here in WA and it was my first time failing it. Checking the sticker under the hood, it says California: SULEV. The fault was the error code P2570 with "Direct Ozone Reduction Catalyst Temperature Sensor Circuit High" as the details. Looking all over the internet on this and other forums looking for ways to fix this I found out it has to do with my radiator sensor for emissions.
I didn't want to go and spend $500+ on a new radiator that probably has a broken sensor but is working still fine. All I want to do is "pass" the test to renew my tabs so what I was thinking to do was using a code reader and just clearing the code from the system temporarily hoping the emissions test wouldn't fail again, but I'm not sure if that would make a difference.
I also read that there are some states who honor a 15 year/150k mile warranty for certain situations, but I'm not sure if Washington state honors that since my car is 08, 102k miles since I live in Washington and not in California, but since my sticker says California: SULEV, would they still honor it? I'm not sure if all cars have that same sticker. If anyone can confirm a dealer that does, please let me know if it applies to my current situation because that would help greatly. If any of that doesn't work, does anyone have a rough estimate on a new radiator+labor costs at dealerships compared to local shops? This would be my first major fix on my car since owning it last year and I haven't done anything on it besides the usual oil changes since getting it at 92k.
