Interesting- So somewhat like something in between a m235 or 435 and a M4? Guess it is a nice in-between for those who don't want to pony up for the M4 but a little more money than for m235 or 435.

I wouldn't call it an in-between from a 435i to an M4... The M2 is to the 2 series what the M4 is to the 4 series. It's the M variant. Same as M5 : 5 series or M6 : 6 series.

Also sounds like it will be limited production... was hoping it would be a bit more mass produced instead of artificially raising the value by lowering production numbers. Limited production just means nobody will drive theirs which IMO is very disappointing.

Just something I found interesting as well. The rear bumper has a hard crease going down it's height. This is a design feature you see on a lot of electric/hybrid vehicles as it reduces drag by giving the air that is channeled around the car a clean breaking point. Another article I read today mentioned the design of the vehicle was designed with aerodynamics in mind and this small detail definitely supports that statement.

Butt ugly and 3500 lbs?! No thanks. What a disappointment after they led us to believe this would be a smaller, lighter M car.

April 2016 is when they'll begin releasing the M2 for sale at BMW Centers, from what I understand. I'm considering opting for the employee-lease on one towards the end of 2016, and selling my e46 M3 to be able to do so. I'd also plan on 60 months worth of financing after the 36 month lease ends, as I'd intend to keep the vehicle long-term.

I was impressed by the M235i, for what it is, and imagine that the M2 will meet the expectations I'm looking for in a nimble coupe - and still retain the original BMW M feel that is present in my e46 M3. I'll need some seat-time in one to make a final decision. So, I'm hoping the BMW Center I work at gets one in pretty early on, so that I can accomplish that.

The current M3 and 4 are hugely impressive vehicles, but I couldn't imagine being responsible for the ownership and upkeep of something so...intimidating, for lack of a better word. And therefore couldn't see purchasing a CPO M3 or 4 for that reason alone (& I can't afford one new).

So the obvious choice is the M2, and I've been waiting for it ever since the rumor-mill hinted at the possibility. Only time will tell if it satisfies my hopes for it.

Just read this(here is the link to the whole article http://www.bmwblog.com/2015/10/21/five-things-to-know-about-the-bmw-m2/)...

"It’s still available with a manual: Almost all of the BMW M2’s competitors have ditched the three-pedal gearbox altogether. The Audi RS3 (http://www.bmwblog.com/2015/10/15/171776/) and Mercedes-Benz CLA45 AMG (http://www.bmwblog.com/2015/10/16/bmw-m2-vs-mercedes-amg-a45-vs-audi-rs3-comparison/) are both automatic only, so the BMW M2’s manual gearbox is something of a revelation to auto enthusiasts. BMW is one of the few companies that still offers manuals if most of its cars and that will remain true for M cars as long as its possible. An excellent DCT gearbox is available, but in a car that’s as small and as fun as the M2, a manual gearbox is almost necessary. Just the availability of a third pedal gives the M2 more enthusiast-cred than the RS3 or CLA45 AMG has."

Would you guys (and gals) agree with this statement?

bmwusa has some pics up now too.

I especially like all the photoshopped race track smoke. First shot shows the M2 about to slam into the pit wall.
There is another shot with the same race track smoke, with the car just parked.

All kidding aside. It does look pretty sharp.
