so after much inner debate, ive decided to move to Dallas. basically I need some info from those of you who already live there.
1.) where are the best bars
2.) where is the nearest race track
3.) im going to be going to richland and i need to find a decent apartment around there 500-1000 per month rent
4.)who's gonna let me buy them a beer for showing me around when i get there?

1. Northside of Fort Worth has good bars, clubs
2. I'm not sure
3. There are many decent places to live in that price range. The cost of living in D/FW is very low.
4. Not me, I left quite awhile ago.

In the DFW area:
TMS (Texas Motor Speedway) is the closest race track, but it is rarely used as a venue for DE's and such because it's so expensive. Some clubs use the parking lots outside the track for auto-x's.
Motorsports Ranch is a great 1.7 mile technical course used most often by the local clubs for DE's. NASA and BMW CCA holds club races there as well.
In College Station, TX (about 2.5-3 hours away from DFW):
TWS (Texas World Speedway) is a 2+ mile track with banked turns where you can top out in 5th gear on the main straight going into turn one. There are a few clubs that hold DE's there, as well as club races. Never been there myself but I definitely want to make it down there sooner rather than later.
In Oklahoma:
Hallett comes to mind. I've never been there but I hear that it's a fun course. I believe it is <2 mi. I don't know of any other tracks in OK. I believe a few clubs hold DE's and club races there as well.
If you're into auto-x'ing, there's no shortage of auto-x weekends in this area. Between the BMWCCA, PCA, SCCA, Equip Rapide and other car clubs, there seems to be an auto-x every weekend from March through November. You can go to www.dlbracing.com to see what's going on (the site also includes Houston events).
And I almost forgot, there are many 1/8-th mile tracks and at least one 1/4-mile drag strip in Ennis (about an hour south of DFW, I think). There may be more 1/4-mile strips but I'm not sure.

I work at Texas Instruments which is down the street from Richland college. there are some very nice apartments near here in the $600+ range. Send me a PM when you get here and I'll be happy to show you around and will take you up on that beer offer.
There are tons of bars in the DFW area. Ft Worth has some, Arlington has some, Dallas has some, Addison, Denton, it just depends which night you decide to go out.

The bar depends how old you are and what type of people you wish to be around.
What at Richland has your interest ? If your taking just basic core class's Dallas has abunch of Junior colleges other than Richland so you dont feel stuck in one part of town.
www.dcccd.edu I have been to North Lake, Mt View and Cedar Valley. My favorite out of those 3 would be North Lake which is surrounded by nice apartments.

Richland is a good school. I'll probably be transferring there this Fall to take some Electronic classes. What field are you going into?

I would take this as a relative comparison. Sure, if you're comparing it to some place like West Plano.. maybe. But say you live in the Park Lane or Harry hines area .. around Richland could be considered a haven. I have seen some nice Apt. communities and Town-houses in that area... nice enuff for even an E46 M3 to call home ;) . Richland is a solid two year school, and since SMU has recommended it to the guy.. I would say the 75/635 area would give him easy access to both and anything else for that matter. IMO.. if you're moving to a new city, get in on one of those extended stay places for a few weeks.. check out the different neighborhoods, and then make the decision.

LOL, thanks Heath. Now if you were talking about Eric's car I'd agree.:D j/k Eric
Austin, you are correct. The immediate area around Richland is ghetto but there are plenty of nice places just a couple of miles away. Of course you wouldnt have to live that close if you went to school there.

Don't forget the new Spring Valley/75 Tunnel, probably the best place to listen to your exhaust rip :D although IMHO North Texas has to rank amongst the most boring ass places to drive around in.

Roanoke road sounds familar. Think I pass it on 35 on my way to Denton.

how bad is the traffic on the George Bush turnpike?
how bad is traffic on the Dallas area freeways in general, anywhere near as bad as los angeles?
QuestMCoupe
08-15-2004, 08:46 PM
George Bush isnt that bad I dont think. I doubt the traffic is as bad as LA, but it can get a little congested. Where abouts in Dallas are you s54?
Austin
08-15-2004, 10:58 PM
People wreck all the time on George Bush when it rains. Traffic is decent on George Bush main area to aviod is 635. Traffic is bad in Dallas but not as bad as LA sometimes it feels as bad.

We have meets every Thursday night at Baskin Robins off Belt Line and MacArthur 8:30pm. Then people usually go eat and drink after the meet.
