Ok, so im getting ready to make a custom e36 badge but im not sure if I want it to be a permanent thing,
anyone know of any "paint-safe" adhesives out there,
sorta like the stock ones that come from the factory?

you could use some silicone, its easy to get off if you dont like it, and is more than strong enough to hold a badge , my roundels are held on by silicone because i didint want to drill holes in the trunk and hood. the problem here is that it can get messy if you dont apply it right.

What about rear view mirror adhesive? Silicone isn't strong.

i said strong enough, and it is, if my front badge hasnt flown off going 240kms than its more than strong enough to hold a little lightweight badge on the back of the car (yeah yeah i know aerodynamics help out here). rear view mirror adhesive is hard to get off once on, it can ruin paint. besides he said he wasnt sure it was going to be permanent so if he puts it on and after a couple days or week etc he can always take it off and secure it using proper adhesive.
edit-forget what i said...
come to think of it, why dont you stop by BMW or any body shop to see if they can spare some adheasive. they all have some im sure you can source some there.

Thanks.....I like the silicone idea but not sure if it will hold up through car washes......I will buy a small tube of silicone and see how it works......

Please let us know.
I found silicone wasn't good to held anything in place but it's great to seal stuff up.

3m black weatherstrip adhesive part 8010... I think or 8801. One of those two.
Or 3m yellow weatherstrip adhesive part# 8001 works good too, but it kinda messy though.

For temporary adhesive, go to Home Depot, look for 3M's command adhesive strips (used for hooks & such) Sticks very well but can be pulled straight off without any damage:

For permanant mounting as the factory does, 3M makes foam tape of varying thickness. Check a local auto body supplier:
